From 20-22 October 2025, NEWGEN consortium members visited the Jicable 2025 conference in Turin, Italy. The Jicable Conference is one of the world’s leading events dedicated to insulated power cables and systems — a benchmark forum where experts, researchers, and industry leaders gather to share the latest developments in HVAC and HVDC transmission technologies, materials, and monitoring solutions. Jicable serves as a key meeting point for those shaping the future of high-voltage cable performance, reliability, and innovation—essential enablers of the global energy transition.
This year’s Jicable HVDC 2025 Young Researchers Contest once again showcased cutting-edge research from emerging scientists driving advancements in next-generation power systems.
We are proud to share that NEWGEN project partner SuperGrid Institute received the 3rd Prize 🥉 for their outstanding poster titled:
“Optical leakage current monitoring for HVDC cables: concept, latest sensor development and perspectives.”
Authors: Maya Mourad, Anaïs Leproux, Damien Decq, and Marie-Hélène Luton.

Their paper introduces SuperGrid Institute’s innovative approach to developing non-intrusive, high-sensitivity leakage current sensors for HVDC cable systems. This approach marks a significant step toward reliable, real-time condition monitoring, helping to ensure the long-term safety and efficiency of HVDC transmission infrastructure — a cornerstone of the global decarbonized, interconnected energy network.
